After launching the budget conscious B85-Pro Gamer motherboard targeted towards the more budget conscious gamer who can’t afford the state of the tech ROG line up, Asus now steps up to offer the H97 chipset with ample feature set including a superfast M.2 slot providing up to 10 GB/s of unprecedented interface. Let’s look into details further ahead in the overview.
After providing a double A plus remark to the B85-Pro Gamer, which was the first motherboard to mark the dawn of the “Gamer” series, Asus, launched the H97-Pro Gamer provides premium features of the ROG boards but has a cut down price. From a GameFirst II NIC to SupremeFX audio AMP. More to come further in the review.
Besides the fact that H97 can’t support overclocking features, the PWM design of the motherboard consists of 8 Phase DIGI+ VRM layout and this board features GameGuardian which is a set of features like resettable fuses that protects the DRAM connection ports against short-circuiting and overvoltage spikes. Board also features, 10K black-metallic caps from Nippon Chemicon. GameGuardian’s ESD protectors safeguard the USB ports and the LAN port. EZ Mode also grants the user to take advantage of low latency network and get more frags other than lags.
SupremeFX has proven its metal in the ROG series, SNR which is over the top even at 115dB. The audio components are isolated from other components to ensure insulation from EM interference (Just like Gigabyte’s H97-Gaming 3) and ELNA audio caps. It also supports headphones up to 300 Ohm impedance. Other than this, SonicRadar II, another Asus exclusive feature, which gives an edge to FPS players by providing them the exact direction of the in game sounds.

M.2 slot are designed for NGFF SSDs which are faster than most of the traditional SATA III SSDs which speeds up your game load times. Coming to the NIC, GameFirst II is claimed to have twice the speed than competing gaming LAN technologies. Powered by Intel Gigabit Ethernet this NIC has exceptional TCP and UDP throughput by synchronising directly with the Intel CPU and prioritize game networks.
This board is totally aimed towards gaming. With excellent feature set and reasonable yet affordable price tag makes this H97 board value for money when it comes to gaming at a budget. Asus is a long lived name in the PCB industry and this board definitely proves it why. We would like to know your opinion, so don’t forget to leave a comment.
